Pennsylvania School Boards Association
The new 57,000 square foot headquarters of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association in Mechanicsburg incorporates many features of sustainable construction. The performance of the building envelope is enhanced through the use of white “TPO” roofing to reflect heat, additional thickness of roof insulation, and high performance sun shading devices along the south façade. The open plan design of the interior spaces works with the strategic window placement to maximize the daylight available to the interior of the building.
The building is designed for efficient circulation and easy reconfiguration of work areas for much of the staff as required. Each of the separate divisions maintains an enclosed office suite, featuring splendid views of the surrounding woodlands, contributing to staff well-being and performance. The facility also features a large board room and training facility, equipped with a catering kitchen and an outdoor patio area. The construction budget and operating costs were important design goals, and careful consideration was given to selection of building systems, components, and finishes.
