Capital Blue Cross

Murray Associates conducted the site selection process for the new corporate headquarters and computer center for Capital Blue Cross. We also provided the site master plan. Ultimately, Murray Associates designed the 300,000 square feet Phase I building, as well as the site development of the fifty acre tract.

The master plan located the current and future buildings centrally within a park-like setting, with vehicular parking radiating outward from a peripheral road. The parking areas are arranged in small lots separated by landscaped green buffers. The landscaping concept, also developed by Murray Associates, includes a formal entrance with planting beds, formal and informal wooded areas, wildflower meadows and natural landscape.

The Phase I building, with a population of 1300 people, is a multi-story structure located on the high point of the site. The building has two main wings with an atrium at their juncture. A third wing contains an operations center with a separate identity that is nonetheless integral with the building design. The building facade is composed of bands of horizontal brick, alternating with bands of glass.

This complex contains office functions, a major computer center, customer service areas, dining facilities including a kitchen, a major printing facility, a health suite and a warehouse operation.
