Presentation Focuses on Adaptive Reuse for Urban Schools
Harrisburg, PA – April 5, 2007 Benedict H. Dubbs, AIA LEED AP, of Murray Associates Architects, P.C., delivered an educational session to the annual Construction Summit of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) in Philadelphia on March 29, 2007. The presentation focused on adaptive reuse of existing buildings for use as urban schools, and featured the Sci-Tech High School in downtown Harrisburg, PA which was designed by Murray Associates. The conversion of the former YWCA building in the heart of the central business district provides 81,000 square feet of space, including a resource learning center, classrooms, laboratories, multipurpose / foodservice space, offices, and incubator space for fledgling high technology entrepreneurial businesses. The building incorporates the latest in wireless and distance learning technologies, and is designed for maximum flexibility of all instructional areas to support the school’s innovative teaching methods. The adaptive reuse required significant demolition, including asbestos abatement, structural modifications, and complete replacement of the existing façade with a modern treatment.

AIA Presentation on New Madigan Library
Harrisburg, PA – April 5, 2007 Benedict H. Dubbs, AIA LEED AP, of Murray Associates Architects, P.C., delivered a presentation entitled “Architectural Design of the New Madigan Library” to the AIA Middle Pennsylvania Chapter in Williamsport on March 23, 2007. The presentation focused on the planning and decision-making process required to create the new 104,000 square foot state-of-the-art library at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport. The new building can accommodate 400,000 volumes, and houses two instructional classrooms, a technology lab, teacher’s learning center, private study rooms, archive areas, an art gallery and a café.

Sci Tech High School Featured in Presentation
Harrisburg, PA – March 15, 2007 Benedict H. Dubbs, AIA LEED AP, of Murray Associates Architects, P.C., delivered an educational session to the annual professional conference of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (NCSSSMST) in Philadelphia on March 9, 2007.  The presentation focused on the planning and decision making process required to provide state-of-the-art facilities to support a creative science and technology curriculum at the high school level, and featured the Sci-Tech High School in downtown Harrisburg, PA which was designed by Murray Associates.  The conference was attended by approximately 315 educators and administrators from around the United States.

Benedict Dubbs Achieves LEED accreditation
Benedict H. Dubbs, AIA, Executive Vice President and Principal of Murray Associates Architects, recently achieved the “LEED Accredited Professional” designation from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in recognition of his demonstrated knowledge of green building design. Murray Associates currently has two completed projects which utilized sustainable design principles, one of which is currently registered with USGBC, and expected to achieve a LEED Gold rating.
